The most admired man in Romanian Jewish genealogy is no longer with us. Sam Elpern (1930-1998), was the heart and soul of the ROM-SIG. His great energy and devotion, his kind, thoughtful and knowledgeable help to one and all were returned in kind. Not one of us would be where we are in our research in Romania without his tireless assistance. He spent his life giving to his family and the ROM-SIG. We therefore dedicate this site to Sam Elpern, with love, in the hope that it will enable us all to carry on his selfless work, and to honor him. We can only hope that he is smiling, wherever he is, and enjoying getting to meet finally all of the relatives whom he had worked so hard to learn about through the ROM-SIG!
