Projects & data
  • All Lithuania Database (ALD)
  • The ALD incorporates data from various sources into one searchable mega-database, and contains the largest number of Lithuanian Jewish records on the Internet. The ALD is the LitvakSIG's primary project.
    • Transliteration, Translation, and Database Standards
    • Record Types
    • Search the ALD
  • District Research Groups
  • LitvakSIG's District Research Groups (DRG) mirror the 12 Uyezds (districts) from the Russian Empire (1795-1917). The groups focus on translating Revision Lists, Family Lists, Tax Lists, and Voter Lists for the entire district, including all known shtetls.
  • Vital Records Projects
  • These projects focus on the translation of birth, marriage, and death records microfilmed by the Latter Day Saints (LDS). A Vital Records Coordinator manages each Gubernia, and funds are raised per shtetl.
  • Shtetl List
  • This projects tracks the small communities of Lithuania where the Jewish people lived prior to World War II. Each shtetl page will contain information, pictures, databases, and links to sites that provide additional information on that locality.
  • Lithuania Given Names Database
  • A searchable data base of Jewish given names used in 1795-1925 Lithuania. Links are made to the local names adopted in this same time period in 9 foreign countries to which Lithuanian Jews emigrated. The data base includes Hebrew, Yiddish, and local secular names used.
  • Kaunas Regional Archives Catalog
  • This is a catalog of a large variety of documents and records in the Kaunas Regional Archives which are of great use to Jewish genealogists. The catalog may be accessed at our Members site. Researchers will find these listings, organized by town and document type, a good starting place when placing orders with the Kaunas Regional Archives for family history research.
  • Special Projects
  • It is sometimes necessary to generate a Special Project for reasons of practicality regarding coordination or funding. For example, if a data set is particularly large and complex, it may require special contribution requirements, due to high budget needs. Or, an indexing project may target an unusually specific group of Jewish Lithuanian residents during a limited time period.
