| Zdunska Wola is a small town, 45 km southwest of Lodz. Jews lived there from the early
19th century until World War II. The Jewish population in 1921 was 7,885 (Source: Where
Once We Walked: A Guide to the Jewish Communities Destroyed in the Holocaust. By Gary
Mokotoff and Sallyann Amdur Sack, Avotaynu Press,
Teaneck, NJ, 1991). The civil registration of the Jews from Zdunska Wola and surroundings
from 1826 to 1874 are included in 6 rolls of LDS microfilms. Most of the later films are
indexed. The objective of "Operation Zdunska Wola" is to include the indices of
all of the town's Jewish vital records in the on-line JRI-Poland database. Phase 1: The first phase of "Operation Zdunska Wola" is completed. It is based on four LDS microfilms of vital records, as described in detail in the following Table. Phase 2: Involved transliterating all the indexes from these films and adding it to the JRI-Poland database. This is complete. Phase 3: Involves extracting all non-indexed data and is currently in progress. This is the most time-consuming phase because it involves reading each and every document.
