For the Polish State Archives project we need Archive Co-ordinators to find, appoint and oversee the work of Town Leaders. The Town Leaders prepare inventories of Mormon microfilms and raise the money to index their town’s records in the PSA. For the huge Lodz Archives project, we were fortunate to have Morris Wirth take on the task of both co-ordinating the film inventory work and doing many of the inventories by himself.
Don’t let the job titles scare you. You don’t have to be experienced. And, if you don’t have the time or there are other reasons why you absolutely can’t volunteer, you can still help by making a donation to the project to index the records of your town. Or, if your shtetl has already been indexed, by supporting the work for nearby towns that could have branches of your family.
We’re proud that our database has the greatest number of indices of any Jewish genealogical project, and that’s certainly no coincidence because we probably also have the greatest group of volunteers, spread all over the world, working together to build the database.
