The inspiration for the Russian Era Indexing of Poland Project – as JRI-Poland was originally called - was based on two obvious needs. First, we realized that those of us using the Mormon microfilms were probably looking at the exact same indices and records as many others had done before. Secondly, many researchers couldn’t understand the records after 1868 when they shifted to Cyrillic, and simply stopped their research at that point. We needed something to help us overcome this barrier.
