| The table below provides a breakdown of the almost 600 entries
that will make up the database of Jewish vital records of Dzialoszyce in the holdings of
the Jewish Historical Institute, Warsaw. The 220 entries from Alegata records in this collection are of particular significance. Alegata (also known as Marriage Supplements or Annexes) are a group of documents that form a more detailed record of the betrothal than the marriage record alone. In addition to the marriage registration, Alegata include at least the birth records for the bride and groom. Other documents relating to the bride and groom or their parents may also form part of the Alegata. When a birth record could not be produced by the bride or groom, a protocol (sworn statement from witnesses including details of the birth) was created. In this particular group of Alegata records, which ends in 1846, the majority of brides and grooms are likely to have been born prior to 1826. This would pre-date the year when Jews recorded their life cycle events in strictly Jewish records. The fundraising target for this initiative is $180. Contributors of $25 will be eligible to receive an Excel file with all entries. The indices for this project will be released to the JRI-Poland database after the fundraising target has been met. However, contributors of the minimum (referred to above) will receive the Excel file as soon as it is available. Because of the small size of the Dzialoszyce collection,
JRI-Poland will create expanded indices and these will be available to researchers through
the JRI-Poland on-line database.
When indices are available, copies of these records may be ordered from the Jewish Historical Institute. Refer to order form. Contributions should be made to Jewish Records Indexing
Poland. For further information, please contact Dzialoszyce Town Leader, Susan Javinsky. |
