Database expansion will
help researchers
As
requested, I have sent a letter to about 56 societies in Toronto on behalf of
our society requesting information that could help increase the data base for us
and JewishGen in general. I
have asked them for a membership list including the following information: 1)
The name of the member – first and family name. 2)
The name of the spouse – maiden name and first name 3)
If possible, the names of the parents of both of the above. 4)
From where in the world the families originated, for example, Radom,
Poland. 5)
When they came to Canada. 6)
Any other information they feel is important. To
verify who I am, I gave them the name of my brother-in-law who is a past
president of a society in Toronto of which I am still a member. I
informed them that the information will enable every Jew to trace his/her roots
eventually anywhere in the world. I
thanked them in advance for their assistance. I hope the resources I used are
up-to-date with the correct addresses
and phone numbers. We will soon find out. Once I receive this information, I
intend to make it available to the community of genealogy societies. I hope you
will find it useful. Al Shuler

memory of Sudilkov’s vanished community
The once
vibrant Jewish community of Sudilkov, Ukraine was completely destroyed by the
Germans during the Holocaust. It was known throughout the Jewish world as a
centre of the Hasidic movement, for its talis
(prayer shawl) manufacturing, and its Jewish book printing. Sudilkov

Out of the mouths of babes: genealogy is fun!I really had a wonderful time learning about genealogy and family history. It was very interesting to look at the huge family trees, even though I wasn’t on any of them. Thank you very much! David

Thank you for telling us about genealogy. It is important because… our ancestors should not be forgotten and we should know who is in our family. I have now started to get deeper into my family tree. Thanks for teaching me how! Rebecca Sirota Calgary Jewish Academy |
