Bio - Dr. Caroline Friedman
Dr. Friedman is originally from Baltimore, MD, where her father
was an ardent genealogist. She spent many weekends as a child accompanying him
to libraries, archives, and cemeteries. From a young age, she learned to
appreciate the storytelling inherent in history and genealogy. She attended Drew
University and Brandeis University where she received a PhD in American History.
Her research focus was poverty, reform, and religious assistance organizations
in the decades following the Civil War in Baltimore. At Brandeis Dr. Friedman
was fortunate to work with Dr. Jonathan Sarna and many other historians who
taught that historical writing should be compelling to readers because it
connects them to historical actors great and small.
