Directions: From Atlanta, Interstate-75 South to Lakewood Freeway (166 West), exit at Main Street / Fort McPherson. Go south on Main Street and
turn right onto Newnan Street. Turn left on St. Joseph. By MARTA, exit the East Point station and take bus #20 - Main Street. The closest bus stop to
the facility is at Main Street and Newnan Avenue. The archives is located one block down on Newnan, then left on St. Joseph.
Description of Resources: The National Archives - Southeast Region is one of eleven Regional Archives administered by the National Archives and Records
Administration. The Southeast Region serves as the main retention center for records which originated by offices of Federal agencies and U.S. District
Courts in the Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. In addition to the above, the
archives contain a wide variety of records pertaining to other parts of the United States.

World War I draft registration cards which include over 3 million men born in Georgia between 1873 and 1900 (Originals for the entire United States are stored in this archives numbering over 24 million).

4. Postmasters records include the appointment of Postmasters, 1789 - 1971
5. Treasury Department records include correspondence of the Secretary of the Treasury with the Collectors of Customs and letters sent by the Confederate Secretary of the Treasury.
6. Federal Censuses
Records are available for 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1890, 1900, 1910 and 1920 for Georgia in addition to the complete census for the United States.
Mortality census schedules are available for 1850 - 1880.
Georgia Non-Population Census, 1850 - 1880; included agriculture, manufacture, social statistics, and dependent, delinquent and defective classes in various counties in Georgia.
7. Passenger Lists
Copies of lists of passengers arriving at certain ports on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts and at ports on the Great Lakes, 1827 - 1873

11. Naturalization Records are on file for some Federal courts in the Southeast from 1790 to 1945. Access to them does require assistance from the staff for research.

World War I selective service records are filed by state and by draft board. The full name and city of the registered person is required.

Description of Facility: The archives is equipped with 28 microfilm machines of which 3 have print capabilities. There are 2 tables available for researchers to view books. Public telephones are available for use. Lockers are available to store personal belongings since pocketbooks, briefcases, and other closed containers may not be taken into the research library. Eating and drinking are not permitted in the research library, but there are drink and snack machines available in the lunch room.
Fees/Copies: Draft registration records can be obtained by mail for $6.00. Make check payable to National Archives Trust Fund. Photocopies are $0.25 per page.
Restriction on Use: Researchers are encouraged to call or write at least a week before visiting to make sure microfilm equipment is available. Regional staff members will attempt to answer mail or phone requests, but cannot do extensive research.
