Who we are, what we do

We are a group of individuals who share an interest in our family history.

The JGS of Buffalo is a member of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies which includes over 80 national and international genealogical societies. The IAJGS conducts an annual week-long conference in international locations drawing upon the expertise of Internationally renowned authorities. Attending these conferences can greatly help in your research.

The JGS of Buffalo maintains its own library, which includes how-to books, Hebrew and Jewish first name books, Jewish surname books, the Jewish Encyclopedia, Who’s Who Books, a medical directory, gazetteers, maps, and newsletters from many national and international Jewish genealogical societies.

We are an educational society and our mission is to teach others interested in genealogical research how to get started and progress. We provide assistance to our member researchers, both beginning and advanced, to find the right resources to facilitate the search for ancestors.
