  • Sacramento Archives & Museum Collection Center

    Research allowed by appointment only. Has many research resources for Sacramento City and County, including the following records:
    • City and County Assessor Rolls and Map Books, most years between 1849-1955;
    • County Assessor Personal Property Rolls, 1893-1938
    • City Directories covering many years between 1853 and 1976
    • Probate Records from various courts, 1849-1940
    • Wills Records, 1857-1927
    • Naturalization Records, 1850-1955
    • Various Court Case Records, 1849-1949
    • Voter Registration Records, 1866-1914
    • Deeds, Mortgages, and other Land Records, 1849-1929
    • Sacramento Bee Vital Statistics Index, 1857-1905 (the State Bureau of Vital Statistics has statewide indexes beginning in 1905)
    • Early Records from Cemeteries, lists of decease

 

  • California State Library

    The California History Section has many useful statewide genealogical resources, including
    • Indexes to deaths (1905-1993 or 1995) and marriages (1949-1986).
    • City directories, phone books, newspapers, voter registration lists, etc.

    After you search the vital records indexes, you can order records (by mail or fax) from the Office of Vital Records.

    Genealogically-relevant records held by the archive include the following:
    • Court and other records for many California counties.
    • Military records.
