Newbridge Hebrew Congregation

Town Location:

Newbridge is a small town situated on the river Ebbw in South East Wales.

Jewish Community:

Newbridge had an organised Jewish community with a minister - Rev. Philip Freedman (for a short period in the early 20th century), a synagogue, a Marriage Secretary, a Deputy at the Jewish Board of Deputies, Hebrew schoolrooms (the classes meeting four times a week at one stage) and associated societies.

The small towns or villages of Abercarn and Crosskeys (just to the south of Newbridge) and Crumlin and Llanhilleth (just to the north of Newbridge), all situated along the river Ebbw, also had a number of Jewish residents in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who were connected to the Newbridge community.
