East Ham and Manor Park are in east London, north of the river Thames. The localities are in the London Borough of Newham, created in 1965, situated in the administrative area of Greater London.
Previously the local authority was East Ham, being the Urban District of East Ham from 1894 to 1904 and the Municipal Borough of East Ham from 1904 to 1915, both geographically and administratively within the County of Essex. The County Borough of East Ham, a unitary authority geographically (although not administratively) within the County of Essex, was created in 1915.
In 1965, the County Borough of East Ham was merged with the County Borough of West Ham and some adjoining areas to form the London Borough Newham.
