Latest revision or update: 30 December 2011 Town of Weston-super-Mare The town of Weston-super-Mare, with a population of 70,000, is a seaside resort on the Bristol Channel in Southwest England. It was a municipal borough in the county of Somerset until 1974, when it merged with neighbouring localities to form the local government district of Woodspring in the short-lived county of Avon. In 1996, Woodspring's name was changed to North Somerset and it became a unitary authority, returning, for ceremonial purposes, to be part of the county of Somerset.
