Merthyr Tydfil Community

The town of Merthyr Tydfil (also spelled Merthyr Tudful), with a population of about 55,000, is in the county borough of Merthyr Tydfil, which, from 1974 until 1996, was a district of the county of Mid Glamorgan.  Prior to 1974, it was a county borough in the old county of Glamorganshire. It is located on the river Taff in the centre of the valleys of south Wales.
