Notes & Sources ( returns to text above)

  • (i) The Rabbi in the Green Jacket 2015 by Vivien & Deborah Samson, p.35 and Jewish Year Books from 1945/6 and 1947.

  • (ii) The Rabbi in the Green Jacket 2015 by Vivien & Deborah Samson, p.35.

  • (iii) The names of the religious and lay leaders were extracted from Jewish Year Book 1945/6, which were repeated in the 1947 edition but with a note that "no information furnished " from the previous year. There was no listing of the congregation in subsequent years.

  • (iv) Although a Rabbi J. Ehrentrew is listed as minister of the congregation in Jewish Year Books 1945/6 and 1947, this is believed to refer to Rabbi Yisroel Ehrentreu, using his second given name (Julius). It has been confirmed by a former congregant that Rabbi Yisroel Ehrentreu was the minister, which is also consistent with The Rabbi in the Green Jacket, p.216, which refers to Rabbi Y. Ehrentreu.

  • (v) Rev. B. Steinhaus is listed as reader and secretary of the congregation in Jewish Year Books 1945/6 and 1947.
