+----------------------------------------------------------------------+ ITALIAN-JEWISH GENEALOGICAL RESOURCES +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ A JewishGen InfoFile By: Rosanne Leeson =A basic "how-to" for doing research on Italian-Jewish roots is to be found in the book of John Philip Colletta, "Finding Italian Roots: The complete guide for Americans", Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing Co., 1993. While this book is a guide for Italian genealogical research in general, there is an excellent chapter devoted to Jewish research in Italy. This section has been adapted from Colleta's book, and may also be found in the Spring 1992 issue of AVOTAYNU. In addition to the descriptions of many resources, the book includes a full and excellent bibliography. =For those with access to the World Wide Web there are some sites that you may wish to look at: Italian Genealogy Page: http://www.italgen.com Island of the Divine Dew (I-Tal-Ya in Hebrew), the Italian-Jewish site. (site temporarily closed) =There is also an Italian genealogy society in Paris. Information is only in Italian and French, as are any responses, but if you are interested, the address is: Association Ancetres Italiens Marc MARGARIT 3, rue de Turbigo 75001 - Paris FRANCE Fax: 01.46.65.60.13 Library open: Tues. 12n-6pm; Wed. 2pm-8pm; Fri. 10am-6pm. E-mail: Geneaita@aol.com The Association maintains a database of bibliographies and studies of the patronyms and Jewish Italian families, mainly in French and Italian. See for copy of their Jewish-Italian Bibliography. =Visit this site built up by a team of graduates in Humanities at the University of Genoa. Here you can find family names, their occurrences and distribution in Italy. 1) http://gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/how.html or http://gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/genera.html You can then cross this information with the Italian white pages online: 2) http://elenco.virgilio.it/pb/home/ With the first site you can find the provinces where a family name is. With the second site... from province you can find the personal addresses. Addendum =Jewish-Italian Bibliography PIVIROTTO, Riccardo and Sideri, Monica - "L'Ebreo errante.
