(2) Loan Translation. This category consists of calques -- transformations based upon the underlying meaning of the name. For example, 11% of those named Bluma became Flora (both mean "flower"), Perl could become Margaret (both mean "pearl"), and Chaya could become Vivian (both mean "life"). But transformations of this type were extremely rare.
