I. Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Ekaterinoslav Area Research Group is dedicated to serving as an
information- gathering vehicle and clearinghouse for Jewish
genealogical as well as historical information relating to the Jewish
community in and around the city formerly known as Ekaterinoslav and
now called Dnipropetrovsk in the Ukraine. Because many Jews relocated
to Ekaterinoslav or the surrounding agricultutral colonies from
Belarus  (and many of these in turn subsequently emigrated), many of
our members and potential members will be particularly interested in
Belarus-Ekaterinoslav connections.

Our hope is that any information that becomes available to any one of
us will be made available to all of us.  We hope eventually that any
materials gathered can be made available via an Ekaterinoslav Web page
and would welcome a volunteer to set one up. We have established this
mailing list in order to facilitate communication among individuals of
similar interests. The mailing list will be moderated and will follow
the guidelines for ěnetiquetteî established for the JewishGen
Discussion Group, as well as for all of the mailing lists hosted by
JewishGen.  Please review the guidelines for posting messages at:

The utility of establishing a Web page will depend on our ability to
gather a significant amount of relevant material. Such materials may
include (but not limited to) photographs, translations from revision
lists, business directories, and other archival material, firsthand
anecdotes of life in Ekaterinoslav/Dnipropetrovsk  and its
surroundings or about the circumstances of relocation from Belarus to
the Ekaterinoslav area.
