Hebrew to Yiddish Names - 2
Slide 29 of 94

Previous TOC Next

Here are two more slides of examples of the formation of Yiddish diminutives, by removing the first syllable of a Hebrew name.

Note that I've used typical Polish spellings of Yiddish names here, which is how they appear in civil records.   (In Polish, the letter "c" is pronounced like the English letters "ts", the letter combination "ch" is pronounced as the guttural "kh" sound, the letter combinations "si" and "sz" are pronounced like the English "sh", and the letter "w" is pronounced like the English "v").
