Searching for FEIGs from former TizsaKaracsonyfalva, Marramoroz, Hungary; currently Craciunesti, Maramures, Romania. This town is also known through Yiddish transliterations as Karacson Falva and Kretsnif. I am also searching for FEIGs, or anyone who knew them from former Nagy Bocsko, Marramoroz, Hungary which currently exists today as two separate cities in different countries, Velykiy Bychkiv, Zakarpatska, Ukraine; and Bocociul Mare, Romania both of which are known through the Yiddish transliterations of Bicskof, Bikivics, Bochkuv, Bukkospatak, Bukovec, Nagy Bocska, Veliky Bockov. In addition, known offshoots of the family came from Tecso, Marramoroz, Hungary; now known as Tjaciv, Zakarpatska and also under the Yiddish transliterations of Tachovo, Tacovo, Tech, Tecs, Tecso, Tetsh, Tiacevo, Tiachev, Tiacheva, Tiaczowo. Members of this family immigrated to the US in the early 1900s, first to NYC, then to St. Louis, Detroit, Chicago and Philadelphia.

Oldest known Feig (documented)

Jacob David Feig
born: abt. 1860s
died: before 1924

1)He was the father of my Paternal GF, Pesach 'Philip' Feig
2)We know about him since he is listed in the my GFs Burial Record as "Jacob David"
3)He is also identified in the Kroonland Ship Manifest by my GF when he immigrated to the US, though he is referred to as "David", not "Jacob David"
4)We know he was probably dead before 1924 since he was not mentioned
in the Coroner's Report on another son's death, though his mother was.
5)He is listed in the 1891 Hungarian Jewish Trade & Industry Report as a Tailor.
This is consistent with my GFs occupation, who was also a tailor.
6)We know his first two daughters were born in TizsaKaracsonyfalva, Marramoroz, Hungary; currently Craciunesti, Maramures, Romania. This town is also known through Yiddish transliterations as Karacson Falva and Kretsnif, through the birth records of his two eldest daughters Malya and Szasza, found in the Baie Mare archive in Romania.
7) We know he must have moved to Nagy Bocsko, Marramoroz, Hungary which currently exists today as two separate cities in different countries, Velykiy Bychkiv, Zakarpatska, Ukraine; and Bocociul Mare, Romania both of which are known through the Yiddish transliterations of Bicskof, Bikivics, Bochkuv, Bukkospatak, Bukovec, Nagy Bocska, Veliky Bockov since this is where my GF says he is from on his Petition for Naturalization from Wayne County, Michigan.
8) We are still trying to find out where and when he was born, what his parents names are, if he had any siblings, and if he had any other children than the four we have vital records for.
9) His wife was Frumet alternatively spelled as 'Frimet' or 'Fannie' Pollak. We know nothing about her, other than the surname Pollak means from Poland or Polish. Frumet means "observant woman".
10) She is listed both on my GFs Burial Record and the Coroner's Report of her son Bernice 'Benny' Feig in Macomb County, Michigan in 1924 from drowning in the Clinton River.

Other FEIGs of this Era (Conjecture on Relationships)

Peiszech Majer Feig
born: abt 1834
died: abt 1890

1)Possible father, correct time frames, and reoccurence of his name and his wife's name in latter generations.
2)Record Source is the Baie Mare Archive in Romania
3)He died in TizsaKaracsonyfalva, Hungary; now Craciunest, Romania
4)Variations of his name occur in three lines of known existing family,
-my GF, Pesach
-child of Chaim (Chaim and Jacob David maybe siblings)
-child of Adolph, son of Chaim
4)Szasza is listed as his wife. This name reoccurs as my GFs sister.

Chaim Feig
born: 1856
died: 1934

1) Possibly a brother of Jacob David
2) Possibly a son of Peiszech Majer and Szasza
3) Born in TizsaKaracsonyfalva, Hungary
4) Moved to Tecso, Hungary per oral history to marry Elke Israel whos family
owned an inn/spa there. Property has apple orchard, and apples are shipped
per oral history to Sighet, and we speculate to Nagy Bocsko as well, where
possibly another brother, David, was a fruit merchant per the 1891 Industry
and Trade Survey (there is a David in the Survey, speculation is on the
relationship as brother)
5) Has 10 children, 7 of which are identified and we are in contact with
descendents, 3 which are unaccounted for.
6) My GF Pesach 'Philip' Feig stays with one of Chaim's sons, Joseph in Detroit
and is listed in the 1920 Census from Wayne County, MI as a cousin, further
supporting the speculation that their fathers were brothers.

David Borach Mendel FEIG
Born: Abt 1880

1) Possibly a sibling of Jacob David and Chaim
2) Mentioned in the oral history from the Goldie, the grandaughter of Chaim's eldest daughter, Margaret, 'Mollie' Feig
3) Possibly the 'David' mentioned in the 1891 Industry & Trade Survey as a Fruit Merchant from Nagy Bocsko.

Known Descendents of Pesach 'Philip' Feig (may be more but they aren't identified)

Malya 'Mollie' Feig
born: August 15, 1886
died: August 1978

1) Oral history from my GM says she is the elder sister of my GF and lived in NYC. She married William Berman and had three children, William, Diane and Morris. Her husband died in his 40s and she remarried to a friend of the family by the name of Goldberg.
2) Birth record from Baie Mare Archive in Romania says she was born in TizsaKaracsonyfalva, Hungary on August 15, 1886
3) Death Record from SSDI...need to confirm that it was her, and not another Mollie Feig
4) GF's Ship Manifest, dated 1910, from the Kroonland indicates he is going to stay with his brother-in-law Jacob Berman, who was Mollie's husband, and provides a NYC address of 612 East 11th Street, between Ave "B" and "C"
5) 1910 Census indicates that she and Jacob live there, and that she speaks Hungarian and Yiddish and he speaks Russian and Yiddish. No record of children or of my GF at this point, so the census may have been taken before his arrival.
Lists Jacobs occupation as Clothing Store, and only two are listed in the city directory for 1910 for Jacob Berman in 1910, and one for 1909, and none for 1908 so they must have immigrated in either 1909 or 1910.
6)1920 indicates that they have three children, William, Diane and Morris. My GF by this time has moved to Detroit and is living with Joseph, son of Chaim and his wife Frimet "Fanny" Feig

Szasza
born: July 25, 1889
died: unknown

1) Birth Record from the Baie Mare Archive in Romania

Bernice 'Benny' Feig
born: Abt 1900
died: July 21, 1924

1) Death record from Macomb County Coroner's office
2) Oral history from GM

Descendents of Chaim (potentially a brother of Jacob David)

1) Chaya Feig - oral history only. No known birth/death dates or descendents. Potentially a holocaust victim or in Israel.
2) Liba Feig - same as above.
3) Margaret 'Mollie' Feig, married Unknown Solomon, had daughter Goldie and son Joseph. Daughter Goldie is source of much oral history being the oldes known descendent.
4) Pasach Feig - oral history only. No known birth/death dates or descendents. Potentially a holocaust victim or in Israel. Reoccurence of variation on name of Peiszach, one of three supporting reasons for assuming Peiszach was the father of Jacob David and Chaim
5)Sophie 'Sausa' Feig. Immigrated to Mt Clemens, MI and may have run an inn/spa there like the old country. Three children, Margaret, Itzchak, Moishie. Several people were in contact with Margaret when she was alive. Trying to contact her daughter Sharon to continue familytree research. Margaret had another daughter as well, Eleanor
6) Yosef (Joseph) Feig. Married to Frimet 'Fannie' Klein, immigrated to Detroit, since Frimet had family there, and this maybe why so many FEIGs ended up in Detroit. Had seven children, Unknown daughter who died in Tecso of a childhood disease, Malka, Irving, Milton, Gertrude, Philip, Rose. Malka's son Marvin Cherrin is actively involved in the research, and has provided the information on the descendents of Chaim through his vital records research and oral histories. Through him, we have the most documentation on this family
7)Adolph Feig. Immigrated to Philadelphia. Married Paola, and had four children, David, Irvin, Paul Mayer "Pessaich Meier", Francis. Again a variation of Peiszach Majer occurs building the case for this ancestor. Brad H. Feig, son of Paul Mayer "Pessaich Meier" is also actively involved in the familytree research and has provided all the information on this branch of the family.
8)Jacob (Jack or Jake) Feig. Immigrated to St. Louis then Detroit. Married Anna Rosner, had two children, Gustave and Gladys, and lived to be a centurion. Marvin Cherrin has been the source of information on his Uncle Jake.
9)Paul (Pinkus) Feig. Married to Sarah Stern, and immigrated in 1909-1910 from Hungary after going AWOL from the army, leaving via a port in France. Stayed initially in NYC with relatives then on to Detroit.
10)Bernard 'Benny' Feig. Married Bessie and had three children, Maurice, Margaret and Fred. Was in the Liquor business in Detroit, but then moves to Chicago.
