The Bornsztajn family was from Belchatow and Lodz, Poland. Symcha and Icek BORNSZTAJN lived in Belchatow and may have been related as brothers or cousins. Icek Mendel and Pinkus Mendel BORNSZTAJN moved to the Baluty area of Lodz around the turn of the century and lived there with their families. Pinkus Mendel BORNSZTAJN died in Lodz in 1918.

Icek Mendel (Max) BORNSZTAJN immigrated to Paterson, New Jersey, from Lodz with his wife, Hinda BRANDEIS, and their seven children, between 1906 and 1910. Two more children were born in Paterson, NJ. At least two of his children eventually settled in Montreal, Canada.
