General Information About the Lists

After the end of World War II, when United States military authorities occupied and administered large parts of southern Germany, including Bavaria, an effort was made to document the fate of the former Jewish residents of Bavaria. A part of this material, relating to much of northern Bavaria, was located in the Captured German Records Collection held at the United States National Archives and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. 7,407 names were computerized by 10 volunteers from GerSIG, the German Special Interest Group of JewishGen. The material itself is held in collection RG1996 A0342, reels 5 and 6 at the Museum.

All information contained in this collection has been included. Where a question mark appears it means that a question mark appeared in the original material. Researchers interested in obtaining more information on persons named in this collection, and still resident in Germany in 1939, may wish to examine the May 1939 census material available at LDS Family History libraries.

The information contained in this database was indexed from the files of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This information is accessible to you today thanks to the effort of the following members of GerSIG who are responsible for the transcription of this file: Yvonne Adler, Johann Fleischmann, Rosemarie Hindle, Gad Naumann, David Neustaedter, Michael Newman, Fay Nissen, Betty Aron Schneider, Bill Suhler, Paula Zieselman. Peter Landé coordinated the data entry. Particular thanks to the Research Division of Jewishgen Inc. headed by Joyce Field and the volunteer project coordinators.
