THE CEMETERIES
All the cemeteries in Luxembourg seem to be under the control of the state (Room 9, Ville de Luxembourg, Etat Civil, B.P.42, 2010 Luxembourg).
MILITARY GRAVES:
Headstones with Stars of David at gravesites are maintained abroad by The American Battle Monuments Commission (source: Commission sheet entitled "Headstones Emplaced at Grave Sites (World Wars I and II" dated 9 May 1994): WWII: Luxembourg, 118 graves. Source: Jonathan L. Eisenberg, Minnetonka, Minnesota: eisjon@email.briggs.com or SEisenbrg@aol.com
Old Cemetery {10683}: mid-1850s to late 1890. The key to the older cemetery can be obtained from Room 9 Ville de Luxembourg, Etat Civil, B.P.42, 2010 Luxembourg. Located on rue Jules Wilhelm [Passge de Treves] above the Tower (an old entrance to the city), names in the database are those found going from the bottom (down hillside) to the top, seemingly from oldest to most recent. Stones that were all in Hebrew are not included.
New Cemetery: Still active. Located at 10 rue des Ceriseres. Collecting
data would require days because of so many gravesites. Tombstones are in
German, French and Hebrew. Source: Pierre M. Hahn Pierre28@pacbell.net
