"In addition to death records, Board of Health records, etc. (up to 1915), a three-roll microfilm has Philadelphia Non Profit (some profit also) incorporations 1799-1957 along with the original books. These are charters for Philadelphia organizations such as cemeteries, Chevra Kadisha, (landsmanshaften), congregations, beneficial associations/societies, progressive aid/relief societies, vereins, lodges, ladies societies, etc., all of whom purchased burial grounds throughout Philadelphia. These charters also are on microfilm at City Hall Register of Deeds. Harrisburg microfilmed the original books in 1996."

HSP has microfilm (identified with an "X") and manuscript holdings listed in their card catalog. Copies of some index cards listed under "Jewish" and "Hebrew" were presented as handouts to the Jewish Genealogical Society of Philadelphia by Dr. Daniel Rolph, Head Reference Librarian of HSP. HSP also has holdings cross-referenced in their card catalog under "Cemeteries records-Philadelphia" for the findings of Charles R. Barker, some of which are described by Jane Adams Clarke in Penn In Hand. (Check for articles by author, title and subject). Mr. Barker's series of "Registers of Burying Ground," (books) are located in the open stacks in the Ph(hiladelphia) section. Among the Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine books [Z12:1] in the reading room is a Charles R. Barker (vol. Graves of Jewish Patriots of the American Revolution:
Contact Winchell Carroll (1-610-254-0340) of Sons of the American Revolution to GIVE information on names of Jewish cemeteries in the five county area (Montgomery, Bucks, Philadelphia, Chester, Delaware). Contact Mr. Carroll to help him identify cemeteries that existed during and after the revolution, Jewish and otherwise. For other parts of the country, he will link you with the appropriate contact (changes each year). The Sons of the American Revolution (based in Louisville, KY) decorate the graves of all Revolutionary war patriots.

Philadelphia and its suburban cemeteries generally are divided into synagogue and organization sections, which may be an asset since the name of a section owner over the area entrance may lead to further information.
