INTERNATIONAL JEWISH CEMETERY PROJECT

Welcome
from the IAJGS -- the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies.
The IAJGS International Jewish Cemetery Project mission is to catalogue every Jewish burial site throughout the world.

Every Jewish cemetery or burial site listed here by town or city, country, and geographic region is based on current locality designation. Some listings include links to other websites with additional information such as burial lists or a name to contact by email or snail-mail.
Not every Jewish burial site has been identified. If you know of others not included in these pages or have additional information to share, please complete the Burial Site Survey found in the "Instructional Information" section.

  • For an individual burial, access the Jewishgen Online Worldwide Burial Registry database at JOWBR .
  • For a specific burial site, click on the region at the top of each page to reach to an index of countries within that region. Click on the country of interest. Because of the frequent occurence of changing borders, each site is listed within the project by its current geographical designation. Other countries to check will be suggested as relevant.
  • To donate burial listing information, go to the JOWBR .
  • To donate cemetery information, go to the "Instructional Information" and complete the survey.
  • To donate a general photo of a cemetery such as the entrance or an overview (not a specific tombstone), please send a jpg as an attachment to Phrases1@aol.com.

The "Instructional Information" section should be read carefully when you first access this project. This section contains much information useful to those researching Jewish burials. Included are many informative pages and "How To" references for Hebrew and Yiddish tombstone translation, Jewish burial customs, Jewish funeral customs, Kaddish, and cemetery and funeral home links. Forms and procedures for donating information about burial sites and suggestions for documenting a burial site are included in ""Instructional Information." Please access this page first.

Queries about information clearly accessible by searching the International Jewish Cemetery Project site as well requests for individual burial information will not receive a response from the project team.

Please note: IAJGS is unable to do the following on your behalf:
  • Go to any cemetery and take pictures of tombstones.
  • Make inquires at a cemetery office about any burials.
  • Look up any documentation about any deceased individual.
  • Provide anyone with any genealogical information about any of the deceased.
All information that has been donated is posted throughout the website. We have no additional information.
