Hungarian Jewish Museum at Sfad, Israel.
Mr. & Mrs. Lustig founded memorial Museum of Hungarian Jewry in 1986 and opened to the public in 1990.Today by a small, devoted team and volunteers operates this site. The very small museum is the only establishment in Israel to preserve and present the heritage of Hungarian-speaking communities-the Jews of Hungary, Transylvania, Slovakia, Carpathian Russia, Bachka (Bacska), Banat and Burgenland. Its purpose is to present the various aspects of community life with their characteristic customs and traditions.      They are cooperating with the Hungarian Jewish Community in Budapest and recently received a database collection of the three biggest cemeteries of Budapest: The Kozma-utcai temeto (Rakoskereszturi Zsido Temeto), the Farkasreti-temeto and the Obudai temeto. Besides, they extended the database to a few provincial cemeteries. The database contains the following details:
  1. First, family and maiden name of the deceased.
  2. Location of the grave in the cemetery: grave numbers, line number, parcel number and code number of the cemetery.
  3. Date of death
  4. Personal identification number of the deceased.
The Memorial Museum in Safed has not yet deciphered codes of the provincial cemeteries. The cemetery database was collected and donated to the Safed museum by: Budapesti Zsido Hitkozseg, Hevra Kadisa, Director: Garami Laszlo, 1075 Budapest, Sip-u.12.
