THE CEMETERIES
DOUGLAS (DOOLISH
in the Manx Language):-
The main
location for Jewish graves is in the enclosed Jewish section of the main
cemetery at Douglas (the island's capital.) This Jewish section was
established during World War II. Many of the first burials were Jewish
internees on the island, who had been refugees from Germany, Austria etc.
Harold Pollins; HPollins@aol.com has
photographs of most but a few are very indistinct or otherwise difficult to
read. [September 2006]
It is one of the cemeteries administered by the Board of Deputies
of British Jews - general enquiries to the Board's Community Issues
Division, 6 Bloomsbury Square, London WC1A 2LP, England. Phone:

For the list of graves in the Jewish section of the cemetery, compiled by
Harold Pollins, see
Douglas Borough Cemetery Jewish Section on the JCR-UK web site - Kirk
Patrick (Holy Trinity) Churchyard: Two graves of Jewish German
civilian internees of World War I are located in this churchyard. The churchyard
was opposite the internment camp so all burials of deceased internees were at
the church, about 130 mostly Germans but also some Austrians and some Turks. In
1962, the majority of the Germans were re-interred in a German War HPollins@aol.com [September 2006]
