Zaniemyśl

(District of Sroda, Region of Poznań)

Translated by Jerrold Landau

During the first half of the 19th century, Zaniemyśl had a significant sized community of 536 souls. However, by the end of that century, the wave of Jewish immigration to the large cities of Germany increased. By 1910, no more than 31 Jews remained in Zaniemyśl, and by the end of the First World War (in 1921), the number had declined to 12. The last of the Jews left Zaniemyśl in 1934 in the wake of the liquidation of the bourgeoisie class.
