This translation is dedicated to the memory of my brother, Howard H. Sokolov, MD.
About 165 years ago, our great-grandfather, Joseph Sokolowsky, had the foresight to be a pioneer settler of Colony Saravo to attempt to provide a better life for and ensure the safety of his children and future family generations. Years ago, my brother had the foresight to gather information from our father, Meyer Sokolov, that started my journey into our family's history and ultimately to this book. I will forever be grateful to them.
