Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

14520 Translation - Other

2/7/2010 Can anyone please translate this letter from a Charity Society in New York 1916. I guess it is in Russian or Hebrew. The letter was probably directed to Samuel Hirsch Oster and his wife Rachel Kohan/Kahn in Norway, born in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Many regards
Toril Osther, Norway

14495 Translation - Russian

2/7/2010 I think this is a will dated with the above date. I don't know the details of the will except that a building was to pass from one person to another at the time of death. Town might be in the Ukraine, Bessarabia or Romania probably somewhere along the Dnestr River. View the post with its 3 responses

14546 Photo Identification

2/7/2010 I believe this is my paternal grandmother's father - Benya Einbund / Ainbund from Parichi or nearby in Belarus. My father's mother was Rose Weiner from Pgh, PA (nee Einbund from Parichi). There are a few words on the reverse (Yiddish?) that I would like to have translated. (See Reverse - Viewmate ID 14548.) View the post, there are no responses
14547 Do you recognize?

2/7/2010 I would like to know if this medalion still exists. My grandfather was a jeweler. According to my dad, he did not make the piece from scratch, but it was in his shop and was inscribed by him according to whomever purchased it for the purpose as inscribed. It is 14 K Gold and according to my father there were three such medals that may have had eith his initials carved on it or brothers or sisters. My grandfather Theodore Greenberg died in 1970 and I never knew him. View the post, there are no responses
14548 Translation - Yiddish

2/7/2010 I'd like to have these few (Yiddish?) words translated. This is the back of a photo of (I believe) my paternal grandmother's father - Benya Einbund / Ainbund from Parichi or nearby in Belarus. (See pic -Viewmate ID 14546.)
It looks like the date 1924 on the left side. (Photo is probably older.) The 2nd line from the bottom on the right seems to start (in Eng?) "Goril" (for Gorelik?) or "Gomel" (the Province?).

The dedication in Polish says:Warszawa 26.II.1939 r. To Estera- J.Goldsztajn
Could that be someone` s missing link?

14538 Translation - Hebrew

2/7/2010 This was submitted by someone with information on my grandfathers first cousins, who perished (or not?) in the holocaust. I am desperate to contact this man, as he may be a survivor whom our family lost touch with. View the post with its 9 responses
