18246 Tombstone

3/6/2011 4:32 PM Can somebody help me read and translate this tombstone? I read: line 2-3 "Ber ben ha reb" and line 4 "Moshe Rojthenborg". The year of his death should be 1775.

I would like to use the translation on the website about Danish-Jewish funerals: http://tom.brondsted.dk/mosaiskebegravelser

best regards Tom Brondsted, Denmark

3/6/2011 4:31 PM This is the dedication page for Israel Kessler's Sefer "Zichron Israel". It mentions his father, his mother and his sister. I have a rough translation, but could use a more scholarly interpretation. It looks to have originally been published in L'vov, but republished in Brooklyn, NY in 1925. I'm also very interest in the abbreviations. View the post with its 1 response

18242 Do you recognize?

3/6/2011 4:31 PM Would anyone know any of the siblings of Israel Camlot or Ethel Gillick? The original name of the Kamlut family was Reich/ Rich. Israel Kamlut was adopted by a childless family to avoid fighting and changed his name from Reich/ Rich to Kamlut. When his children came to Montreal/ Philadelphia areas, they changed their name to Camlot. Is there anyone who would know more about these families' name changes?
Thank you

18228 Interpretation

3/6/2011 4:28 PM I would like to know the town that is listed in column 6 of this 1857 passenger list for an arrival at New York. Please look at line 7 for Marianne Brilawsky (BRYLAWSKI)and make a suggest for the town that is listed. It looks like Krobopkin to me but JewishGen has no suggestions for a town close to that spelling.

Thank you
