Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

22967 Translation - Russian

5/27/2012 4:26 PM I am wondering what the sign says at the top of the picture? Does this sign or anything else in the picture give you any idea why this group of people were together? Would you have any thoughts of what the significance of the only man in the picture would be? Do the type of clothes give any meaning?

Thank you so much,

Corinne

22954 Translation - Other

5/23/2012 4:15 PM I would appreciate a translation for the language on the back of a photo. The problem is, I am not sure what language it is. It is either from my grandfather's family - he was from Zbarazh, Austria - so then the language is either Yiddish or ? Or it is from my grandmother's family - so it could be Yiddish, Russian, or Polish? I am going to submit the photo in a separate link in case it might add context to the language translation. Thanks. 22956 Translation - German

5/23/2012 4:15 PM I think that the mother of this new son Simon Ludwig (2 names?) is the daughter of a couple in my tree - Simon Karpeles and his wife Rosalie Novak (not too sure about Rosalie's name). I can't make out the information about the mother in this birth matrik. I would really like to get a translation of the whole thing if possible, but especially the information about Simon Ludwig's mother (Barbora?).

Thank you.

5/23/2012 4:14 PM Can anyone translate the entry for my relative, Bernard Beinhacker, who was born in Senica, Slovakia and died in Budapest on November 6th, 1846 at the age of 20? I believe the cause of death may be listed but I cannot decipher the handwriting. I assumed the writing was in Hungarian but it may be German. Thank you. View the post with its 4 responses
