Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

3/23/2011 4:08 PM I would greatly appreciate a complete translation from Yiddish to English. This is the back of a group photo taken in Israel,in what seems to be an old age home(there are nurses in the photo) perhaps on Channukah. Thank you for your kindness.

3/20/2011 5:16 PM Another card among the Argentina cache of Chava Spiwak Cohen.

I would like a literal translation, plus interpretation of the tone, any names and dates. And if anyone can help me date the photo from the clothing and hair, that would be great, too.

3/20/2011 5:16 PM I found this information in the back of "Abridged Prayer Book For Jews in the Armed Forces of the United States" that I inherited from my Austrian great grandmother when she passed. Does anyone have any information on the person whose information is listed?
It says:
Name: Pvt. Friedman Morris
Company: Co. A 38th TR BN.
Regiment: 7 INF.

By the way, what does TR and BN. stand for?

3/20/2011 5:15 PM I am researching Leova (Leovo). Bessarabia and found this document in a file that included a report about a pogrom in Leova. I am not sure if this document also relates to Leova or not. I don't know Russian, but I know the alphabet well enough to recognize the city name, and I don't see "Leova" in the document.

If this document is about Leova I would like someone to translate this document to English.

These documents, when translated, will be posted on the Leova Shtetlinks page.

3/20/2011 5:15 PM This is a message from Pinie (Pinye) Schaposhnik to a member of the extended family, perhaps a Spiwak relative. I would like a translation that renders the tone as well as the literal meaning of Pinie's message.

Pinie's brother Velvel married Abram Spiwak's sister Gitel. Velvel and Gitel emigrated to the US, while Pinie and his family emigrated to ARgentina. I do not yet know the names of Pinie's wife and children or grandchildren.
