Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

19185 Do you recognize?

6/1/2011 6:12 PM This picture shows a group of girls who celebrated their Bat Mitzvah in the Bulawayo Synagogue (in Zimbabwe, formerly Rhodesia) in 1968. Rabbi Zwebner (center) was officiating.

All the girls have been identified except for the 6th and 7th girls from the left in the photo. Does anyone know the names of these two remaining girls?

Thanks.

Roy

19133 Translation - Other

6/1/2011 6:06 PM It has been suggested that this document is of Russian origin and has been partially translated. Can anyone help with additional explanation of the document and details?

My husband's family came from Sighret Marmures Roumania and Czech. It was found among old pictures and passports and it was thought to be a passport for an unknown ancestor. We do not go back as far as 1849 in our family tree and this is the oldest document we have. We do not recognize the language and have been unable to understand the document.

Would it be possible to help us determine what we have and what it tells us? Many thanks for any help.
