Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

4/22/2012 4:31 PM I am trying to find out my relative's parent's names. This is the birth certificate for Israel (Fishel) Grossman. Can somebody please tell me the parent's names and witness names, and an exact date if there is one?

22547 Interpretation

4/22/2012 4:31 PM This is the bank account opened in Philadelphia to purchase the ticket to get my Grandfather to America. The address is on the account, third person down, Rothstein. Is Kischinew the same as Kishineff. In English, if I were to write this address, how would it look, including modern counties and cities? View the post with its 1 response

4/22/2012 4:30 PM This is the second page of a "yichus brieve" written by Naphtaly Kuttner my wife's third great grandpa. There is an inscription in Yiddish on the top of the letter which is hard to read. I would really appreciate if somebody could translate it for me.

All the best.

22538 Photo Identification

4/22/2012 4:29 PM This picture is possibly one of my great-aunt Nadya Weprinsky, but may show someone else, presumably a relative. For comparison purposes, Nadya is definitely shown in another uploaded image wearing a fancy headdress (VM 22535). Although born in Gorodishche, Ukraine, Nadya was once an aspiring opera singer in Moscow, circa World War I. There is no written or printed information on the photo itself identifying where or when it was taken. Any information explaining the photo, including the costume the subject is wearing, or establishing the subject's identity, will be appreciated. View the post with its 2 responses
