Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

26298 Translation - German

2/24/2013 5:01 PM This article was printed in NY when my grandparents arrived after WWI. There was a separate story that was printed in an English language newspaper the same week. I would be interested in a full translation to see if the content of the two articles is the same or how it may differ.

Thank you.

26295 Interpretation

2/24/2013 5:00 PM I am trying to learn the town of birth of my ancestor Benjamin Hirschmann. Here is the town of birth listed from two different documents at the time of his death in Budapest. One said Galicia and the other reads Poland so I can assume that he was born in Galicia. One lists GroƟ before the name and the other Nagy, which are the same as each other and as the Polish "Wielkie". The only idea I've gotten was Czestochowa, however as far as I know that never had a Gross/Wielkie attached to it. If anyone could figure out this town, I'd be greatly appreciative. Thanks. 26296 Translation - Hebrew

2/24/2013 5:00 PM I'm looking for Hebrew translation help from the Hanau and Mainz Memorbuchs. There are about 10 records that I'm looking for translations, half are of similar difficulty to this one and the other half are written in block Hebrew letters and are very easy to read. Hoping someone can decipher this handwriting, this one particularly should be of Menachem HaKohen, who died in the 1620s. Thank you. View the post with its 3 responses
