Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

16061 Translation - Yiddish

7/28/2010 4:37 PM I was told that this card was written to a mother-in-law.
I am not sure which language this is written in. It could be Russian or Yiddish.

I appreciate very much all of your help.

16071 Tombstone

7/28/2010 4:36 PM This is a stone in the demolished jewish cemetery in Chumalovo which at the time was part of Aus/Hungary in the state of Maramaros. This photo was sent to me by a recent visitor to Chumalovo. There are no Jews in Chumalovo now. Most were murdered in the Ukraine in 1941{Kamenets Podulsk Massacre}. My grandfather, Israel Slomovic, who died in 1935, is buried in this cemetery as are other relatives. I would like to have a translation of the stone from Hebrew to English if at all possible. My mother was born in this village in 1902. View the post with its 2 responses
