Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

3/24/2013 4:35 PM I need to understand the child's given name entries for birth records 4932 and 4937. These do not seem to be names, so I guess that the word is a status, like stillborn or unnamed, but I do not recognize it.

Please enter the meaning of this word if you recognize it.

3/24/2013 4:34 PM This is from a Hamburg 1883 passenger list.

Can someone read/interpert the second surname which is Eva NATHAN. What do the three words in the middle say/mean for this woman? Do you think she is traveling with the family listed above?

3/24/2013 4:34 PM I'd appreciate translation of the complete Hebrew inscription for both Rabbi Saul and Jennie Rubins. Unfortunately the top edge of the monument was cut off in the photograph I received so the ViewMate image reflects what I have. View the post with its 3 responses

3/24/2013 4:33 PM These are images from birth records for my Grandfather (the two on the right) and his sister. I am particularly interested in learning my Great Grandfather, Marcus's occupation (it appears there are two). I also would like to know the names of my Great Grandmother, Neche Biener's parents. 26720 Do you recognize?

3/24/2013 4:33 PM This woman resembles my grandmother. My grandmother's two sisters 'disappeared' during the Holocaust. I would like to know if this woman is one of my grandmother's lost sisters. Grandmother's maiden name was Florence Segerman (Zegerman in Bialystok). The sisters had children. Could one or more of these kids be this woman's child? Any information is appreciated. Particularly, names and date. The only identifying info on this photo is "Kindergarten in Zambrow" I believe Zambrow is very near to Bialystok. Was my grandmother's sister the kindergarten teacher?
