Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

12/23/2012 4:39 PM The New York arrival record (31 Dec. 1906, SS Caronia) of Moschek MIRKOWITZ, 18, and his brother Hirsch, 15, shows them joining a friend named LEWIN at 719 ??? Street, Philadelphia. I can't decipher the street name (next to last line) and hope that someone can help. Thank you.

Note: In 1914, the Philadelphia manifest of Chawe and Schleime "MILKOWITZ" (siblings of Moschek and Hirsch) lists as their destination "uncle Berl LEWIN, 5523 N. 5th Street Philadelphia" -- perhaps the same person as the "friend" in 1906.

12/23/2012 4:38 PM This is my Abraham Schmidt's death certificate from 1912 in Vienna. He was from Rozwadow, Galizia.
I would like to know what the two words after his name are(should be occupation, I think)as well as the words between the two cities of Jarocin and Rozwadow..
Thanks

12/23/2012 4:38 PM This is an article written by my great-grandfather, Rabbi Joseph Zeisler, in March 1885, for the publication Die Deborah, a German language newspaper. I would like to have it translated as best as possible. I have a better/higher resolution copy that I can send if necessary. I have no idea what the article is about. Thanks! 12/23/2012 4:38 PM I would like to know what's written on this card. This is the back of a photograph of an elderly woman. I'm pretty certain that the writing at the top is Yiddish. Any help with a translation would be greatly appreciated! View the post with its 3 responses

12/23/2012 4:37 PM This is a page from Lithuania death records, 1907. I am interested in the entry for the fourth person down on the page, identified as "male 4": David Itsko Kaplan. I would appreciate a complete translation of that entry. Together with this image, I have up-loaded a cropped image of the portion of this page containing only the entry for David Itsko Kaplan.
Thank you.
