Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

22146 Translation - German

4/1/2012 4:07 PM This is my great great grand mothers marriage- I already had it translated - the translator says it has symbols on Friederike and Gollieb Marks indicating Jewish ancestry. I'll like to know more about these symbols. As I believe the Nazi used these symbols to identify the Jewish people.
Dittmer's mother objected to this marriage,( as his father was already dead ) while Jewish cigar maker Gottlieb approved.

22229 Photo Identification

3/28/2012 5:29 PM We'd like somebody to help us identify the date, or TIME range, in which this photo was taken. The Magen David pin that the boy on the left (in the photo) is wearing on his right lapel and a wristwatch may provide some clues. The red (?) scarf that his sister is wearing may also.

Also, does anybody knows of the significance of the magen david or scarf - if they were representative of some political affiliation, zionist affiliation, etc.

Thank you.

22230 Tombstone

3/28/2012 5:29 PM Please translate Hebrew portion of tombstone inscription. Sorry I had to crop image so closely to meet ViewMate restrictions on size, but if what you can see of the overall grave design might reveal something about the deceased, that would also be helpful. This tombstone is located in New York, USA. View the post with its 3 responses
