Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

20412 Translation - Russian

10/9/2011 4:35 PM This is a death entry for Sura Sztejn (1896). This could be my great-grandmother, but I am not sure, so any names of other family members and locations, would be helpful. Two other documents have been uploaded, one from 1902 with the same name, and one from 1895 which is of Rafal Sztejn (potentially husband of Sura Sztejn). View the post with its 1 response

20414 Translation - Hebrew

10/9/2011 4:35 PM Please translate this letter. It was sent to my late brother David PLATNICK who was born in Toronto. David and his family lived in Israel for a year some time in the 1970's and he was in contact with our relatives there.

Shlomo SILBERBERG/ZILBERBERG the author of the letter was related to the LANDAU, OPOCHINSKI, KUTCHINSKY Family from Leczyca, Poland. Shlomo was my mother Rae (LANDAU) PLATNICK's cousin.

Thank you in advance for your help.

20410 Tombstone

10/9/2011 4:34 PM This is a photo of my great-great-grandfather Nison Novick's gravestone which I took this weekend in NYC. Hebrew text is hard to make out. I'd like to know his Hebrew name and his father's name, as well as possibly his age at the time of death (1914).

Thanks in advance

Igor

20326 Interpretation

10/9/2011 4:32 PM This is listed under the category of Province on ggrandmothers manifest. The manifest lists her nationality as Russian, country as Russia and the above photo is what is written for the province. I have tried Town Finder and other sources without success. She arrived in the Boston US via Quebec/Liverpool. Any thoughts on what the province might be? Most of the passengers that were Russian on the ship seemed to be Belarusian. 20225 Tombstone

10/9/2011 4:28 PM This is the Tombstone one of my Jewish Ancestor Wolf Goldschmidt born on 28 February 1658 in Frankfurt am Main ,Cassel, Hessen , and died on 29 May 1717 in Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Current location , the Jewish Cemetery in Muiderberg in The Netherlands.Concerning my The Johansen Family Tree with the JewishGen :ID#367887 in Ejde in The Faroe Islands.
NB.!!! What means the Hebrew text into English or Danish Language instead. I wish I could understand that text of course.
NB.!!! I have send Abraham A. Marmorstein, a message to his private E/mail adrs. With a bigger size of Wolf Tombstone. I hope that was enough to translate the rest of the Hebrew text on the Tombstone. I could think me to known the whole text on the Stone from the beginning to the end , of course. Chery. Magnus.!!!

10/9/2011 4:28 PM This is my mothers wedding pic which took place at the Marmaros Hungarian schul. Im looking for the names of her attendends and ushers. Most of the attendees came from the shtetl in Aus/Hungary which at that time was COMOLOVO, now in the Ukraine. Chumalovo was in Czechoslovakia between the wars. Now in the Zakapattia county of Ukraine. My mothers said that everyone in the photo is a cousin, except for her husband, Herman Ganz[behind the bride] and bro in law,Samuel Ganz[on the left] View the post, there are no responses
