Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

6/27/2012 4:06 PM Hi. I would like a loose translation of this marriage record for Majer Szczercewski to Zejfla Szymsiowicz. Especially would like to know marriage date, the town Majer was from/born and his parents full names and if they were alive at time of marriage.
I can email the second half of the document, if needed. Unfortunately could only print in 2 parts.
Many thanks,
freda

6/27/2012 4:06 PM I believe this is a birth record for Isaac Schwartz, but I am having trouble deciphering the date, and pretty much anything else in this image other than the occasional word. For example, I guess that a Samuel Schwartz is the name of the father, but I cannot make out the mother's name although I can see where it is structurally because of the words 'erfrau' and 'gebornen' in the third line of the main paragraph. 6/27/2012 4:05 PM Birth Certificate for Freude daughter of Bluma Weintraub.

Please provide a direct translation of the words after the mother's father's name. Why does it show a moyel for a girl? Is the information in the headers something I can get directly translated?

Thank you

6/24/2012 8:40 PM This is the first three columns of a birth record. [The other columns have the names of the baby and its parents.]

I do not have the column headings.

My questions are:

1. In the second column, what does it say to the left of the 855?

2. What do the numbers 14, 855, and 343 mean?
