Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

9/4/2013 6:04 PM This photo was from my cousin's estate. I am hoping that someone could give me an idea about the year it was taken. It could have been taken in NY or Germany. On the back of the photo is the following:

28556 Translation - Yiddish

9/1/2013 4:46 PM This is a Document from a Jewish Emigration Society in Lithuania which registered my Mother (Gita) her sister Nechama and their mother Joche / Yochevet Green / Grinas, as Persons using the Society to Emigrate to South Africa.
They actually left a day or so later via Hamburg, Germany and reached Cape Town on 19 October 1937.
I cannot read the the Yiddish and the Lithuanian text is also quite difficult. An address in Bez Valley given is that of their brother / son in Johannesburg. The photos show Joche, Nechama and Gita from top - down.
