6/4/2014 8:01 AM It came to pass in the Town of Szydlowiec on the seventeenth day of September in the year of one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five at the hour of eight in the morning. Before me, performing the duties of the Mayor of the Town of Szydlowiec and a Civil Registrar, personally appeared Orthodox Jew Majer Englard, the Rabbi of Szydlowiec Synagogue, accompanied by

Orthodox Jew Rachmil Szczesliwy, the bachelor, nineteen years of age, the son of Icek, not alive anymore, and Liba, still alive, the Szczesliwys, a married couple, still staying with his mother the day labourer residing here, of the one part, and

Orthodox Jew Hana Laja Brytt, the maiden, eighteen years of age, still staying with her parents Dawid and Szajndla, the Bryts, a married couple, the traders residing in the Town of Wachock, of the other part,

and declared in the presence of Orthodox Jew Herszek Fuks, fifty-seven years of age, and Fajwel Mendelbaum, fifty-three years of age, both of them being szkolniks residing here, that the religious marriage had been entered into in front of him the day before of the current month and year at the hour of ten in the evening here in Szydlowiec by Orthodox Jew Rachmil Szczesliwy, the bachelor, and Orthodox Jew Hana Laja Brytt, the maiden, following

triple proclamation of banns to the Jewish people during a service, that is to say, on the fourth, the eleventh and the eighteenth day of October of last year, held in Szydlowiec Town Synagogue, and the one held in Ilza Town Parish Synagogue on the fourteenth, the twenty-first and the twenty-eighth day of October of the current year*,

and a verbally declared consent of the newlyweds’ parents, present here,

and no objections relating to impediments to that marriage raised by anyone,

and, as per the newlyweds’ statement made at that particular moment, no premarital agreement at all made by them between each other,

after which the actual act was read aloud to the appearers and the witnesses and subsequently signed by everyone except for the bride and the mothers who declared that they did not know how to write.

Majer Englard (signed in Polish)
{The following} denotes Rachmil Szczesliwy (signed)
{The following} denotes Dawid Brytt (signed)
H Fuks (signed in Polish)
F Mendelbaum (signed in Polish)
Bukowski (signed), performing the duties of the Mayor and the Civil Registrar

NOTES:*Although the banns proclaimed in Ilza could not have taken place in “October of the current year” as this would have been actually after the wedding, still this is exactly what the record says.
