This is the tombstone of my great-uncle Moishe Krantzberg. I would greatly appreciate a translation of the Hebrew text on the stone. Thank you!

8/5/2013 1:51 PM Hello Karen,

My interpretation is as follow: The top lines address virtues in a poetic way. It continues with Moses Krantzberg's Hebrew name, Moshe Ben/(son of) Menashe. He died during the Hebrew month of Tevez.

Perhaps someone else will be able to correctly translate the top lines....Jo
8/5/2013 10:11 PM Hi Karen.
The top is an eight line acrostic poem, where the first letter of each line spells out the deceased's Hebrew name. (Moshe Ben Menashe)

How great is our despair
Our house is broken apart
Alas, we have lost
A son loyal to his people
From his wife and sons
He has been torn, at half his allotted days
His name will be honored
And the Torah will keep him alive

Moshe son of Menashe
Died 17 Tevet 5687
