Most of my difficulty translating is really about reading the handwriting and being unfamiliar with the names.

What I think I know: My great-grandfather's name was Leon Sommer, born 1865, in "Austria".

I think I read "Hania" on both the back and front of the photo, but am not sure. It appears the woman in this picture would be my ggf's sister (Hania)?, and she has 'dedicated the photo to her dear brother Leon to remember her by.' Is that correct?

Also, is this describing 'Solomon Gruenseid' as her own husband - or someone else's? That part confuses me.

The name, "Prauser", is completely unknown to me.

(I have found many records concerning a Charles (Henry) Wallas(c)h of Buffalo, so am not as concerned with him at this point.

I would like to get help with these name spellings and possible suggested variations to use as I research further. Any other thoughts or information would be welcome as well. Many thanks.

4/28/2013 5:48 PM Sorry, I could only read Salomon Grunseid on the top (dont think it says Gruenseid)

Yes, he is Hania's husband.

Hania Wallach [Prüser?]

Yes, she has dedicated the photo to her dear brother Leon to remember her by.

There are some little typos in the handwriting.

I would think Leon stayed in Buffalo at the house of Charles Wallach

The name on the photo is not "Prauser". The picture is not very clear here, but there is a "Umlaut" for an ü or an ä. Perhaps Prüser.
5/2/2013 8:35 AM Thanks all! This is my first foray into the branch of the family from Galicia and I have a lot to learn and am a bit overwhelmed learning how to navigate all the available resources on JewishGen and elsewhere.

So, getting some clarification on the details of these names and relationships is a big help in moving ahead.

Since "Brother Leon" emigrated in his late teens, and at the date of this photo he would be near 50, I am guessing that perhaps the two gentlemen in the photo may be cousins, or childhood friends? Or even family business connections? Not used to seeing a woman pose with anyone other than immediate family, so it's an interesting question to ponder.
