3/24/2013 7:28 PM Hello J. Modern,

In Yiddish: "Das Bin Oych Soney". I am guessing that it means "That is also Sonny". Hopefully this will make some kind of sense to you.....Jo
3/26/2013 9:24 AM I think it's "ikh", not "oykh", in which case the translation is "This is me, Sonny" (referring, of course, to the person in the photo). It's also not clear how the name should be transliterated into English: Sonny? Sone? (I've never come across this name before.)

3/26/2013 1:54 PM the firstname in Sana in document written in polish, I would like to know what is the last letter here in yiddish after Samech-Aleph-Nun
3/27/2013 10:06 AM The last letter is "ayin". It's one and only role in Yiddish it to indicate the sound "eh" (short e, similar to its sound in the word "end").

It makes sense for the Polish Sana to become Yiddishized into Saneh. Very often, female names ending with n "ah" sound in their original language (Sara, Rivka, Lea, Tanya etc.) will have their last vowel transformed into "eh" when said by Yiddish speakers. Hence Sare (or Sure)Rivke, Leye, Tanye etc.

3/29/2013 4:15 AM The name "Sane" (pronounced "sah-neh") was also sometimes used in Poland as a version of "Netanel".
3/29/2013 1:09 PM Hello,

I've done a little bit more checking, based on some of the information that others have provided. In checking through the JewishGen Given Name Database, it does appear that the name Sone is a nickname for the Yiddish name of Nesaniel. You might want to check that source for additional information or for other names that you might want to research in the future.....Jo
3/29/2013 1:11 PM additon to previous response....correct spelling to Sane....Jo
