Category: Interpretation Approval Date: 2/24/2013 5:00 PM Family Surname: Hirschmann Country: Poland Town: Budapest	Click the picture to enlarge	I am trying to learn the town of birth of my ancestor Benjamin Hirschmann. Here is the town of birth listed from two different documents at the time of his death in Budapest. One said Galicia and the other reads Poland so I can assume that he was born in Galicia. One lists Groß before the name and the other Nagy, which are the same as each other and as the Polish "Wielkie". The only idea I've gotten was Czestochowa, however as far as I know that never had a Gross/Wielkie attached to it. If anyone could figure out this town, I'd be greatly appreciative. Thanks.

Hello Michael,

The lower note (written in Hungarian) clearly states that the town was in "Lengyelorszag", which is Poland.
A, also, cannot find any town that corresponds to either Csevstoba, Csevsztoba or other corresponding spelling. For right now, your only idea of Czestochowa sounds like a good possibility. As for the name "Nagy" before the town, it might have been how the name was used in Hungarian, but might not matter in it's Polish name. It seems fairly clear that while your ancestor lived and died in Hungary, he was born somewhere in the area of Poland or any of the other political boundaries that it was within.....Jo
