1/20/2013 6:52 PM Hello Daphna,

Just an educated guess here, but I would say that this gentleman was an observant Orthodox Jew. The head covering, his coat, and his full beard (that is left to grow naturally, without cutting as is customary in the observant) all lead me to believe that this description is appropirate....Jo
3/20/2013 9:39 AM Hi Daphna, I've done some research and here's what I found:
yours relative was Hasidic Jew (Chasyd in polish).I agree with previous response that hist hat, coat and beard suggest that. Moreover I found some photos of Hasidic Jews and some of them wear similar hats. Especially that photo found on Yad Vashem website might be useful for you (one of mens might be even your relative):
http://www.yadvashem.org/yv/en/holocaust/resource_center/item.asp?GATE=Z&list_type=1-8&TYPE_ID=6&TOTAL=Y&pn=29&title=

it's descrobed as "A group of Hasidim walking in the street, Tomaszow, Poland, Prewar"

Moreover there are few testimonials in Yad Vashem databases with bravman/brafman/brawman surname and Tomaszow Lubelski

http://db.yadvashem.org/names/nameResults.html?lastNameAdv=brafman&lastNameAdvType=THESAURUS&placeBeforeTheWar=tomaszow&placeBeforeTheWarType=THESAURUS&language=en

And that photo:

Brafman Lea, Brafman Icchak are mentioned in list of Jews that received help from Jewish community in Szczebrzeszyn between 1939 and 1942 here is link to pdf file
http://scebreshinum.republika.pl/plus/slownik_h_b.pdf

it's in polish but that source is mentioned by author
("Book of Memory to the Jewisch Community of Shebreshin". (Published by the
association of former inhabitants of Shebreshin in Israel and the Diaspora). Kiriat Yam 1984 )

other link

http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/szczebrzeszyn/szczebrzeszyn.html

the distance between Szczebrzeszyn and Tomaszów Lubelski is about 50 {kilometers about 31 miles}

Hope it will be useful in yours research
