This is a page from an old book that I found in some papers of my fathers. Would like to know what it says. It appears to be Yiddish or possibly Hebrew and perhaps some Russian in smaller print on the bottom of the page.
Many thanks

1/14/2013 12:11 AM The first half of the page indicates it is a book of "responsa" by a rabbi Alshakker from Sadilkov (hope I got the names right); it is in Hebrew, not Yiddish, and should be in the Viewmate Hebrew section.
The second half of the page should be in the Viewmate Russian section as it is a transcription in Cyrillic of the book's title, name of the author, place and year of publication, etc.
1/14/2013 3:34 AM The name of the book is "Questions and answers by Rabbi Itzhak Aliashkar", published in Sudzilkov(??) in 1834 and is of course a collection of religious issues.
1/14/2013 4:54 AM It would seem this town of Sudilkov had a florishing Jewish printing industry.
The author's correct name seems to be rabbi Alshekh Moses. He and his book appear on a list of "responsa" books printed in Sudilkov.

You can find this and other interesting info here:
http://grossmanproject.net/sudilkov_jewish_history.htm

Hope this helps.
1/14/2013 5:05 AM Sorry, my mistake.
The name of the author has been transcribed in this list as Moses ben ALASHKAR.
The title of the book checks out: "sheelot uteshuvot" in Hebrew (meaning rabbinic responsa) appears in the second printed line of the page you have uploaded.
The year, 1834, and the place, Sudilkov, also check out.

1/14/2013 2:26 PM This would be a great antique piece, and might be a good find for folks in the Judaica antique business.

It is an old print from 1834 and has some Rabbinic stamps, showing that it was owned by great Rabbis,
